“Multicultural Asian Professionals” (MAP) was established on February 13, 2007 as the community service aspect of “Meetup of Asian Professionals,” but soon became an entity in its own right. The name, MAP, reflects the goals of our global outreach programs, which are sponsored by Asian professionals who desire to influence and promote an increasingly pan-cultural global society.
Our mission is to help the kids, help the poor, and help the environment. Specifically, we aim to:
1. Support organizations that launch or improve educational programs in rural Asia. We work with organizations such as ACCEF, which has raised money to build schools for underprivileged youths in China.
2. Learn about and participate in financial programs to help the poor in developing countries. Successful groups such as Grameen and Kiva help us build the model to support organizations like Wokai.org, which establishes micro-financing loans in Asia.
3. Actively promote green initiatives and technologies to encourage the creation of a sustainable eco-system. We hope to share and expand the awareness about air pollution, water treatment, and the like to developing countries in Asia.
The mantra for the new MAP is “Help the Unfortunate.” We hope that our members will help expand and guide this vision as this group grows in experience and numbers.
